Four Uses for my Favorite Natural Beauty Product

If you’re like me, your bathroom might be full of bottles and jars- some products for winter, some for summer, each product usually having just one use- to clean, to clear, to clarify, to condition. The clutter can feel a bit overwhelming. And especially when it’s time to travel- there’s no room for clothes in your suitcase- you require too many products. Clutter, and generally having too much “stuff” around you can actually cause anxiety and stress- which is definitely not good for your skin.

Not only do all of these products take up a lot of space- they can also be expensive. And- many of them are full of a number of chemicals and toxins that can actually strip your hair and skin of their much-needed natural oils and protective layers. Many times we are using one product to eliminate something and another to replace. Opting for more natural options will leave your skin and hair healthier, less dry, and less irritated. You will also find that many natural products (some that you might actually find in your kitchen instead of your bathroom) fulfill multiple purposes.

My favorite product- COCONUT OIL- has four uses in one. There are many more than four uses for coconut oil, but these are my favorite four. Using this one product allows me to cut back on clutter and feel good about what I am putting on my skin. And, it’s less expensive.

I like to use coconut oil to replace:

1) Eye-Makeup Remover: Simply coat a cotton ball or tissue with a bit of coconut oil and swipe your eyelids. It’s magic! The oils may also help to reduce wrinkles around the eyes. Mineral oil, which is found in most conventional eye make-up remover, can cause blemishes and be harsh on your skin.

2) Hair Treatment: Once a week, apply coconut oil directly to dry hair- especially to the ends. Allow the treatment to penetrate hair for 20-30 minutes. Shampoo and condition hair as usual. The result: silky smooth hair!

3) Moisturizer: After the shower, rub coconut oil between palms and apply to skin as you would regular moisturizer. Oil absorbs more deeply into the skin than creamy lotions- so you get more moisture and softer skin. You may want to wait a few minutes before getting dressed to allow the oil to absorb- enjoy brushing your teeth in the nude!

4) Deodorant: Lightly heat ¼ cup oil to liquify. Mix oil with 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional). Store mixture at room temperature in a small jar to return to a solid state- or refrigerate to solidify more quickly.

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature meaning you don’t have to worry about oil getting all over the place. If your home is warm- your coconut oil might reach a semi-solid state. If you like your oil to be a little more like liquid, you can lightly heat the oil. If your oil is too solid, just rub the oil between palms to heat to liquefy. Then apply to skin and hair.
